Lisa Zanghi’s local fans definitely showed her some love with the 2009 Nappie Awards with an honorable mention for “Best Area Singer.” This jazz siren made her presence known in the ’70s and ’80s by conjuring the same muses that influenced such icons as Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt.
As many other musicians before, she journeyed to Nashville in the ’90s and found a spot singing and playing piano in country singer Doug Stone’s band. In addition to her work with Stone, she is also an accomplished songwriter and has released several albums, the most recent of which is “A Different Side of Me.” Over the years, she has become a regular performer at venues up and down the Gulf Coast and has even graced the stage at BayFest.
It is not surprising to see Zanghi winning an honorable mention in the Nappies. Armed with a sultry voice and a ticklish piano, she definitely has a firm hold on her Gulf Coast roots with Swamp Pop ballads such as “A Little of You” and blues numbers such as “Tanqueray.” She also has the tendency to delve heavily into jazzy songs like “I Love Loving You.”
